My little Jojo is much better, he's taking his amoxycillin, and he is mostly fine, with a bit of wheezing, coughing and pain. He spent the whole day playing on his computer today, so I think he is mainly enjoying the pneumonia experience.
Friday night I made the boys get dressed just before bed, as Saturday we arose at 6am (urgh!) and i made bacon butties, before we dropped the two boys at SuperLady's house, then picked up the girls and made our way to Happy Chicks in Lancashire. It was very dark and grey, we were on the motorway. A novel experience for me, but this is the every-morning experience for my DH. We ploughed through some snow on a country lane, and even wobbled over an ice-filled ditch at one point. We miraculously made it there only about 10 mins late. For our 1-hour, intensive chicken-keeping course with Sarah Holden, the delightful proprietor. She told/showed us everything we need to know. We were in a small group with only 3 others, who had all just got hens/ducks around christmas time.
There were also sheep, goats, emus, a shetland pony & a llama there.
We got to hold baby chicks & also had to catch a hen (I had never even held a hen before!) and then I held it and DH clipped it's wing. You have to bring the hen up to your chest, with her face near yours, much like a toddler, to make her feel safe. Funny, I would never have dreamed of letting a beak like that near my face! But it was absolutely fine.
It was really fun, and Sarah was very friendly and is clearly passionate about chickens & their health.
I am very confident about our future chicken friends!
Today I was in creche at church, which made a lovely change. Little 'uns - i just have a lot more patience for them.
For lunch I made taco soup in the slow cooker. Links above in "recipe links"
Saturday night my friend LL sat the kids so DH & I could go to Liz 'n' Brian's for dinner, Liz is a super hostess & cook, we had a wonderful meal & silly chats and played a trivia game. Lovely!
