sorting shoeboxes

To continue yesterday's theme.  A homeschooling mum had invited us to gather at Blythswood Care to help sort/check shoe boxes prior to delivery to Ukraine. Thankfully the location is in Speke, yes it's our old church building!  I didn't really know what to expect - I haven't done this before, but I knew I'd met a couple of the guys who work there cos it's just across the road from the Noahs.
We went in, there's a huge pile of shoe boxes, and some lovely volunteers explained what to do. It was a lot more complicated than I imagined - you need to remove anything age-inappropriate, as well as chocolate, play-doh, playing cards & other baffling things. You check if all the essentials are in box : toothbrush & paste, soap, hat, scarf, gloves, and then fill/augment the contents from various large boxes around the walls.
It was really fun! There was the double blessing of also seeing other home edders, including a Lady I used to know about 10 years ago in Aigburth - she recognised me (I recognised her son's unusual name) and another friend, who is also  a  local new home edder who had decided to take me & the kids to lunch today. OKAY THEN!
My Lovely Linda dropped in there just to say hello & ended up staying all day cos it just is Really Fun and we are definitely doing it any further "free" moments we have.
I had to tell my Lola all about it cos she will Definitely enjoy helping out there as she us such a Christmassy person! When she grows up she'll probably be one of those people who eat mince pies every day of the year & spend all their salary on lights to coat the house in from October to February!
A happy day.
