Polonia Christmas evening

I went with Joe,  Emilia & Little O to Merseyside Polonia's 6th annual Christmas Eve celebration last night alongside such luminaries as the deputy Lord Mayor and the Polish Consul.  There were lots of Christmassy songs in each language, bible readings in both languages, endless translated dull speeches, a little procession of traditional things to a table with explanations and then food! Emilia was in the procession taking stuff such as hay to the table.  The buffet was Pierogi, barszcz cherwony ( my fave spicy beetroot soup), there was even a vegetarian Bigos - hunter's stew, much to my surprise, as vegetarianism isn't a thing in Poland.
It was in St Francis Of Assissi school, Kensington i.e. 2 bus rides away, so I found arranging childcare round Fred's swimming lesson and Daisy club rather complicated, and it fell through at the last moment when Ange was taken to hosp with suspected blood clot (she's expecting twin girls). So Thankfully Super Lady stepped in & sorted Fred.
It was the match on last night, and we were going quite near Anfield so you can imagine the traffic situation. We took 2 hours getting there, but quite frankly a nice time to chat with Joe and eat the many snacks i had brought.
It was a little dull really, but I enjoy having a taste of, a peep at other cultures that most of us never have an idea about.  There was a deaf polish guy there who just communicates by writing. Do Poles have a sign language? I'll google that later.
