I can't upload a pic from my phone, but this is the coop i bought. cheap n cheerful.
They have been spending the day there but coming in at night. Well, yesterday they did one poop to many in the dining room & I evicted them! They are out in the garden. I have some fleeces and i bought a shower curtain to cover over the house at night, for a bit of extra insulation and waterproofing.
This morning they seemed fine, I opened their door at about 8am and fed them. Then since then they have been "free range" i.e. pottering about the garden, keeping noticeably close to the back door ("why won't she let us in?")
There are actually two 6-foot fence panels missing in our garden, but the hens have been nowhere near them, so I'm not very worried. They have been peckin' and scratchin' out there for a couple of hours. Just now Lola, who's decorating cupcakes, called me, "There's a cat looking at the hens!"
And there was.
Galadriel noticed. And she made herself as tall as possible and slowly advanced toward the cat. I wonder how it would have ended between them. I stopped the action simply by opening the back door, which made the cat go back into next door's garden.
They are only 7.5 weeks old, and approx half their adult size, so I wonder how well Galad would have done against that cat.
